We have all been there, coffee slipped and got all over your favorite shirt, red wine on the couch cushion, grease spots on your new pair of jeans. Stains are a part of life, they are going to happen every now and then, but that doesn’t mean they have to be permanent. With the right steps taken, you can save not only your clothes, but your sanity as well!
Quick Action matters!
The sooner you can tackle a stain the better: Don’t follow your urge to rub it in, instead follow these tips:
Blot, Don’t Rub: Use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently blot away excess liquid.
Cool Water Rinse: Rinse the problem area under cool water to stop it from setting in.
Prep for Treatment: Before tossing it in the washer, be sure to treat the stain with the right solution for it’s type.
Specific Stain Hacks:
Coffee & Tea Stains: Mix one teaspoon of liquid dish soap, and 1 cup of water to dab the stain. If that doesn't work; try a little bit of white vinegar and rinse thoroughly.
Red Wine Stains: Sprinkling Salt on the stain to absorb the liquid can help.
Grease & Oil Stains: Sprinkling baking soda or cornstarch on the spot to absorb the oil for around 10-15 mins. Then, be sure to gently scrape off the powder and apply dishwashing liquid, rinse with hottest water available.
Grass Stains: pre-treat with liquid detergent, mix equal parts vinegar and water, and dab the stain.
What NOT to Do with Stains.
Avoid Hot Water Off the Bat: Make sure to treat with cold water first because heat can set stains in permanently.
Don’t Rub Aggressively: This can not only spread the stain bigger, but can also damage fibers in the fabric.
Never Dry Before It’s Gone: As mentioned before, heat will lock in that stain forever.
