At first, it may not make a lot of sense to turn clothes inside out before putting them in the wash, but doing so can make a big difference.  This tiny change in your routine can make a big difference in the quality of your wardrobe.

1.  Combating Friction

The exterior of your garment faces the most visible wear and tear when it’s in the wash.  Friction against other garments and the machine may not be notable from just one time, but repeated washings will add up on the wear and tear so that you’ll definitely see the difference sooner rather than later.  This is especially relevant for darker fabrics, prints, logos, decorative stitching etc. To combat this, washing garments inside out helps to bring the friction to the interior of your clothes instead.

2.  Targeting the Sweat Zones

Being human means to naturally accumulate seat, skin and oils to your clothes.  Doing the “Inside out method” also helps to keep clothes fresher because it’s gonig to more attentively clean those problem areas.  This is extremely recommended for activewear, uniforms and undergarments.  As a bonus tip, if the color is important to the garment, be sure to wash it with cold water!
